Indoor Environmental Diagnostics Service

What you can’t see can harm you. Indoor levels of air pollutants can be 2-5 times higher, and occasionally 100 times higher, than outdoor levels. Big Red’s expertise is in identifying and eliminating environment-related reactions or allergies. If you are currently suffering from environment-related symptoms, and seek to find the root cause–you have come to the right place!

Specific Indoor Air Contaminants

  • Carbon Dioxide, ppm – Carbon dioxide concentration is monitored using an Indoor Air Quality Gas Monitor.
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO), ppm – Carbon monoxide concentration is determined using a Toxic Gas Monitor with CO Sensor.
  • Formaldehyde (HCHO), ppm – Formaldehyde concentration is analyzed using a Photo Acoustic Sensor.
  • Ozone (O3), ppm – Ozone concentration in air is measured using a Toxic Gas Monitor with ozone sensor.

Specific Physical Parameters:

  • Relative Humidity and Temperature – Relative humidity and air temperature are measured using an Indoor Air Quality Monitor.
  • Air Movement and Air Flow – Air velocity and airflow are measured using an anemometer.

Specific Classes Of Contaminants:

  • Respirable Suspended Particulates (RSP), no./m3 – Respirable Suspended Particulates are measured using a Portable Dust Monitor from 0.75pm to 10pm.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), ppm – Total Volatile Organic Compound is determined by means of a Portable Photo Ionization Detection System.
  • Total Bacteria And Fungal Counts, cfu/m3 – Indoor air is sampled using an Andersen Single Stage Air Sampler at a sampling volume of 160 liters.
  • Bacteria & Mold Speciation – Big Red offers bacteria and mold speciation services in Singapore. The test can be done thru air or swab sampling.

Frequently asked questions

What does an indoor air quality test actually measure?

We measure the gases in your air (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and ozone), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), respirable suspended particulates from about 0.75 to 10 microns, relative humidity, temperature, and airflow. We also sample for total bacteria and fungal counts, with mold and bacteria speciation from air or swab samples. Together these show what is in your air and why a space feels the way it does.

How do I know if I need an IAQ test?

Consider testing if occupants report a stale or stuffy space, if there is a musty smell or visible mold, after a new fit-out or new furniture when VOCs and formaldehyde are off-gassing, or after water damage. Facility managers also test before and after remediation to confirm the numbers have improved, and on a routine schedule to keep a healthy environment documented.

Do you test for mold and bacteria, or only gases?

Both. Alongside the gas, VOC and particulate readings, we collect air and surface samples and analyze them for total bacteria and fungal counts. Big Red is one of the only providers in Singapore able to analyze viable spores from air, bulk, dust, swab and Rodac contact plates locally and in-house, so we can name the specific mold and bacteria species present, not just report a count.

Which areas of Singapore do you serve?

We provide indoor air quality testing island-wide from our Bedok headquarters, covering every HDB estate, condominium, landed home and commercial premises across Singapore. There is no out-of-the-way surcharge.

What do I receive after the test?

You get a written report listing the measured levels for each parameter, how they compare against recognized indoor air guidelines, and clear recommendations. If the results point to a source such as poor ventilation, a duct issue or active mold, the report explains the next step so you can decide how to act.

What happens if the test finds a problem?

Because Big Red also carries out air duct cleaning, mold inspection and removal, disinfection and odor treatment, the same team can address whatever the test uncovers. We can also run a follow-up clearance test after the work to confirm the levels have returned to normal.
